Frequently Asked Questions

1. What services does Prairie Landscapes provide?

We offer full-service residential and light commercial landscaping, including design, installation, and maintenance across four core areas: softscaping (plants & beds), hardscaping (patios, walkways, retaining walls), lawn installation (sod, hydroseed, artificial turf), and year-round lawn care (mowing, fertilization, aeration, pest control).

2. How do I get an estimate for my project?

Simply call us at 306-371-6210 or fill out the form online to arrange a free, on-site consultation. We’ll evaluate your property, discuss your goals and budget, and provide a detailed, itemized proposal within 3–5 business days.

3. Do I need a permit for my landscaping project?

Many softscape improvements (flower beds, tree planting) don’t require permits, but hardscape work—driveways, patios, retaining walls over 4 ft, irrigation mains—often does. Prairie Landscapes handles all permit research and applications on your behalf so you don’t have to worry about stop-orders or fines.

4. When is the best time to install a new lawn?

In Saskatchewan, early fall (mid-August through September) is ideal: cooler temperatures and reliable moisture encourage strong root establishment. Spring installations work too, but require more vigilant watering through summer’s heat.

5. What warranty or guarantee do you offer?

We back all installations with a 30-day establishment warranty. If your new lawn, plantings, or hardscape show significant defects or failures within that period, we’ll return at no charge to make it right.

6. How often should I schedule lawn care services?

For most lawns, we recommend:

  • Mowing & edging every 1–2 weeks during the growing season
  • Fertilization four times per year (spring green-up, early summer, late summer, fall root boost)
  • Aeration & overseeding once each in spring and fall
Our customizable plans let you choose exactly the frequency that fits your goals and budget.

7. Can you design a landscape that conserves water?

Absolutely. We specialize in low-impact, sustainable landscapes using drought-tolerant plant palettes, drip irrigation, rain gardens, and permeable hardscape materials to minimize potable water use—and often qualify for municipal rebates.

8. What happens if the weather delays my project?

We build weather buffers into every schedule and communicate proactively if extreme conditions (heavy rain, frost, heat wave) force a pause. Our goal is to complete your job as quickly as conditions safely allow—without cutting corners.

9. Can I do part of the work myself?

Yes! If you’d like to handle tasks like planting bulbs or spreading mulch, we’ll happily adjust your proposal and offer guidance on best practices. Many homeowners choose a hybrid approach: we tackle the heavy lifting (grading, irrigation, hardscape) and you add the finishing touches.

10. How do I maintain my new landscape after installation?

Upon completion, we provide a custom care guide outlining watering schedules, pruning tips, fertilizer timings, and seasonal checklists. If you prefer, we also offer ongoing maintenance plans to keep your yard in top shape year-round—just ask us for details.
